Your Place in the Sun.......

COMING IN 2011 .....

OVER THE COMING MONTHS JANE WILL BE WORKING TO SET THIS CLASS UP READY TO START A FREE CLASS IN JANUARY, 2011. I REALLY HOPE YOU WILL CONSIDER JOINING HER.

INTERESTED? EMAIL JANE FOR FURTHER INFORMATION OR TO PLACE YOURSELF ON HER CLASS LIST. (scrapbeginnings@gmail.com)

This class is open to everyone - paper, hybrid or digital scrapbookers - in fact you don't even have to be a scrapbooker to get something from this class as it could be done as an old fashioned journal or a photobook or by using photo pockets. Whatever method you use, at the end of the year you will have another album of stories to add to your life history.

Have you ever wanted to put together an album about that special place in your heart you call home but didn’t really know where to start? Would you like to produce an album to record the things you see and the places you go regularly within your neighbourhood? Have you taken for granted a large part of your everyday community life? Would you like to see the wider picture of how we fit into where we live and how exactly we interact with the people around us who share the same common ground as us on a daily basis?

Then please join Jane in 2011 for a year long free class where you will explore your own community, be it in the rural countryside, urban suburbs or in high density city living. You will soon discover a deeper understanding of the area in which you live by looking at familiar sites with new eyes. Together we will look at the history of your community, its attractions and its facilities through a monthly extensive pdf download, loaded with prompts and ideas. Each lesson will include inspirational layouts, sketches, fun facts and a series of challenges to get you started. There will be monthly prizes up for grabs and a gallery for you to share all your work. At the end of this year I know you will have a wonderful album of completed layouts which will record your life in your own community. This will be a very special project to share with your family as the years roll past and you perhaps move on to other homes in your life journey.

I joined up months ago and can't wait to try something a little bit different :) Get in quick so you dont miss out.........did you read the bit about prizes??? :)

Nature Brings Joy

Here is my entry for Scrap that Poetry's latest challenge. You had to use the poem.........

The Tables Turned

a poem by William Wordsworth

Up! Up! my Friend, and quit your books;

Or surely you'll grow double:

Up! up! my Friend, and clear your looks;

Why all this toil and trouble?

The sun, above the mountain's head,

A freshening lustre mellow

Through all the long green fields has spread,

His first sweet evening yellow.

Books! 'tis a dull and endless strife:

Come, hear the woodland linnet,

How sweet his music! on my life,

There's more of wisdom in it.

And hark! how blithe the throstle sings!

He, too, is no mean preacher:

Come forth into the light of things,

Let Nature be your Teacher.

She has a world of ready wealth,

Our minds and hearts to bless

Spontaneous wisdom breathed by health,

Truth breathed by cheerfulness.

One impulse from a vernal wood

May teach you more of man,

Of moral evil and of good,

Than all the sages can.

Sweet is the lore which Nature brings;

Our meddling intellect

Mis-shapes the beauteous forms of things:

We murder to dissect.

Enough of Science and of Art;

Close up those barren leaves;

Come forth, and bring with you a heart

That watches and receives.

I used the words 'Nature brings'.......

NATURE BRINGS JOY

The journaling around the photo says...... 'Nature brings Joy'...in the form of rain to dry old Melbourne!! It's such a Relief :)
The raindrops are handcut from felt, to give the page some texture

Hi Everyone,
I hope you are all well...
I have come across a family that have a heartbreaking time in their lives ( go here to hear about Harrison's Story) and it got me thinking about families in Geelong going through the same heartbreak.....
WE CAN HELP just a little bit.... I know of soooooo many talented ladies out there, local ladies and also others who are not local....
I have been in contact with the Grief and Bereavement Counsellors at Geelong Hospital and they would LOVE our help....
Here is what I have in mind......
Create a BEAUTIFUL keepsake for someone who has lost a loved one whether it be a child or a grandparent.....You can create a 8x8 Album or maybe a BTP item....Or you can buy a frame and insert a scrapbook page with a place for the person to add their own photo of their loved one....
You can create your KEEPSAKE for either a baby boy/girl, male/female or just keep it neutral.....
The idea's are endless and up to you to use your imagination.... I KNOW for certain that all us SCRAPPERS have LOADS of items that we buy and put in a cupboard or drawer and say " I will create something with that one day!!!!!!"
Well, TODAY IS THAT DAY!!!!
It is coming up to Christmas and to lose a loved one at that time would be awful so I would LOVE to get some KEEPSAKES to the hopsital ASAP....
So WHO CAN HELP??????
Please contact me at ddmat5@three.com.au for more details and where to send your KEEPSAKES...
I REALLY HOPE THAT YOU ALL WILL HELP :)
It would mean soooooo much to someone to think that someone they don't even know cared enough to make something sooooo special for them during such a hard time......
SO LETS RALLY TOGETHER AND HELP OUT SOMEONE IN NEED.....Please let your scrapping friends know about this and the more we can help the better....
I really look forward to hearing from you.....
I will post here any donations we get so everyone can see what others have done....
I am off to start creating and will post here what I have created to donate....

I'm Grateful 4

Here is my entry for Challenge #29 at 'Scrap that Poetry' using the poem 'A Prayer for the Great Family' by Gary Snyder.

The perfect poem to scrap to with 'Thanksgiving' only a few days way :)

'A Prayer for the Great Family' by Gary Snyder.

Gratitude to Mother Earth, sailing through night and day—

and to her soil: rich, rare and sweet

in our minds so be it.

Gratitude to Plants, the sun-facing, light-changing leaf

and fine root-hairs; standing still through wind

and rain; their dance is in the flowering spiral grain

in our minds so be it.

Gratitude to Air, bearing the soaring Swift and silent

Owl at dawn. Breath of our song

clear spirit breeze

in our minds so be it.

Gratitude to Wild Beings, our brothers, teaching secrets,

freedoms, and ways; who share with us their milk;

self-complete, brave and aware

in our minds so be it.

Gratitude to Water: clouds, lakes, rivers, glaciers;

holding or releasing; streaming through all

our bodies salty seas

in our minds so be it.

Gratitude to the Sun: blinding pulsing light through

trunks of trees, through mists, warming caves where

bears and snakes sleep— he who wakes us—

in our minds so be it.

Gratitude to the Great Sky

who holds billions of stars— and goes yet beyond that—

beyond all powers, and thoughts

and yet is within us—

Grandfather Space.

The Mind is his Wife.

so be it.

- after a Mohawk prayer

My Luve is like a Red, Red Rose

Here is my entry for 'Scrap that Poetry' fortnightly challenge. I couldn't miss joining in on this one, as it was my suggested poem when I was on the DT.....it's a beautiful poem from the Scottish born Robert Burns.

A Red, Red Rose
by: Robert Burns

Oh my luve is like a red, red rose,

That's newly sprung in June:

Oh my luve is like the melodie,

That's sweetly play'd in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonie lass,

So deep in luve am I;

And I will luve thee still, my dear,

Till a' the seas gang dry.

Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,

And the rocks melt wi' the sun;

And I will luve thee still, my dear,

While the sands o' life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only luve!

And fare thee weel a while!

And I will come again, my luve,

Tho' it were ten thousand mile!

Here is my entry:

Into My Fairy Garden Come

Here is my take on 'Scrap that Poetry' poem this fortnight. I had this page half finished when I left the DT, so I managed to finish it off last night. the poem for inspiration is .....

There is Another Sky
by Emily Dickenson

There is another sky,
Ever serene and fair,
And there is another sunshine,
Though it be darkness there;
Never mind faded forests, Austin,
Never mind silent fields—
Here is a little forest,
Whose leaf is ever green;
Here is a brighter garden,
Where not a frost has been;
In its unfading flowers
I hear the bright bee hum:
Prithee, my brother,
Into my garden come!

You have until October 31st at 10 am EST! to link your entry to the post. So, come on join in......

Here is my take, I used the last line of the poem and I put a spin on it as my title.

Into my Fairy Garden come

The Fairies are my Jenna and Rachel both aged 4yrs

I painted the galvanised bucket, onto another art piece for my laundry so, I took a photo, and then cut it out for this project. (I will upload and show you shortly :)
I added a sexy leg with diamond embellies on the black heels, the stripey leggings just look so 'me' lol
I added a sea of flowers and then stuck a R.I.P tombstone, cross, skulls and the grim reaper :(
I scattered some of my listed'bucket list ' items through out the sea of flowers.

This is my list.......

Some great news to share.......

Last week I went to a crop at my favourite scrapbooking store called Flutterbuy's. (The two lovely ladies that run the shop (Robin amd Samantha) approached me during the night and asked if I would like to be on their newly formed DT for their new gallery on their on-line shop site.

I was sooo happy to be asked :)

...............but it gets better..... any pages I make up for the the gallery will be of product just sold in the shop.........that means I get to design and make layouts with free product. Yippeee!!!!! Once I have completed my pages they get showcased in the Flutterbuy's gallery and also in the shop :)

So today I went in the morning and collected cardstock, pp, ribbon, flowers, brads, double sided tape and lots of other bits and pieces to make up 3 pages and a flower pot.

I'm so happy that someone finally has acknowledged my work and of course I hope all the products I have used on my pages sell like hotcakes in the shop :)

(Just double click on the banner and it will take you to the on-line shop)

Britt - 2nd Annaversary !

Britt Lapthorne's parents Dale and Elke are back in Croatia on the second anniversary of their daughter's death.

THE parents of tragic Victorian backpacker Britt Lapthorne claim an investigation into their daughter's death has been "shovelled away in a drawer''.

Britt's parents, Dale and Elke, are in Dubrovnik for the second anniversary of the 21-year-old's death.

Mr Lapthorne said the couple had work to do in Croatia.

"Obviously the police are doing very little,'' Mr Lapthorne said.

"Since the AFP review several months ago they feel that's all done, everything’s clear and they can just shovel it away in a drawer.

Britt Lapthorne's parents Dale and Elke are back in Croatia on the second anniversary of their daughter's death.

"We've got our own work to be done.''

Mrs Lapthorne said it was difficult for the pair to be in Croatia.

"Someone just walked past the studio here and told us the police are upset that we're back again so that's put a smile on our face because that's what we're here for,'' she said.

"We are here to prompt the police.

"The case has sort of gone dormant and we don't want that to happen.''

The former Kilmore International School student's body was found in a Dubrovnik bay almost three weeks after she disappeared from a local nightclub on September 18, 2008. - (Source, is the Herald Sun.com.au)

*****************************************************

I have my own way of thinking about Britt and expressing these feeling and as you would know, is through my art. So, I actually did a little scrapbooking page that I think has turned out just beautiful, and I wanted to share it with everyone, as this is my way of remembering beautiful Britt. I dont want others to forget also .......

For the ones that don't know, my connection to the Lapthorne's is through Elke whom I work with.

'Fly Like a Bird...and Soar'

Thanks for looking and keep some prayers in your heart for Elke and Dale

First Day of School Butterflies

Here is my submission for this fortnights 'Scrap that Poetry' challenge, the poem to scrap to is

First Day of School
by Eddie Garcia

you have to the end of the month to get your entries in :)

This scrapbook page is designed to look like an antique school slate (I got the idea and inspiration from Vintage Image Craft), which was once used by Victorian children for practising their letters and numbers. I used black card stock for the slate and then made a simple frame using wood-grain pp. I even mitred the corners on the frame. Across the bottom I assembled a collage of 'Vintage' school children (figures cut from vintage images), with various artifacts as slates, pens, ink wells, balls, books, globes and apples of course.

The first day of school can be an emotional collage of excitement, bewilderment, fear and adventure. Here is Adam on his first day of school, (photos taken at home). He is sitting on our front letterbox complaining that he is feeling funny in the tummy (nerves of course!). Just like the poem, once Adam got to School and found his friend David Reichelt (from up the street) was in his class he was right as rain :)

David and Adam still remain close friends, they are 26 years old now!

I would like to thank Melissa O'Neill for her gorgeous stamped butterflies which I recently received in a 'Kraft' swap........... I think they make the perfect touch to this page :)

Do I get an 'A' plus for this school scrapbooking page! lol

What do you think?

2. Try find out the origin ofthe city name

3. The meaning of the name

4. Try and use 2 photo's....a past and present

and you have until September the 14th to get your entry in :)

South Morang

The journaling says:

The journaling reads:
South Morang is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia,
23kms north east from Melbourne’s CBD. It is on the Plenty
River and sits between Mill Park and Mernda. Originally
known as Morang South, it derives its name from the Parish
of Morang which was named after an aboriginal word thought
to mean cloudy or sky.
We don’t have town as such and only last year we had a huge
Westfield Shopping Centre built. We had little stores scattered
around our area before then.
Like most Australian towns the ‘Pub or Hotel was the local
gathering place. Here the commercial hotel was erected in
1890 which replaced an earlier wooden hotel burnt down
the year before. This is one of the oldest landmarks in South
Morang.

I really enjoyed researching for this challenge and putting it altogether.

Thanks Mary and I'm looking forward to your next challenge already :)

Sunshine Award!

I was blogging away today looking through some of my Design Team blogs....and I came across this from Natalie Elphinstone....she is such a sweetie. It was posted on July 19th, but in my haste to get everything ready for FS2S blog hop, I have overlooked it!

Thanks Nat...you really are an inspiration to us all :)

I'm going to pass this on to 6 newbies that have just recently joined in the challenges at FS2S and ARTastic. I really love their takes on the challenges, and love the fact that have joined in and given our challenge sites a go!!! You Go girls!!
