Cloth Paper Scissors - Project 12

Here is a layout I did for Mary's Project 12 challenge at Soul Scrappers

Project 12

I’m sure that many of you have heard of Project 365. As a scrapbooker and someone who loves to take photos I thought that Project 365 would be just the thing for me. I took a photo each day for the first two weeks and even scrapbooked most of them. As the days went by I found that keeping up with this project was just too much for me. I love the idea of journaling my life through photos and scrapping them but I found that I did not have time enough to do it daily. So much for my Project 365 journey . I really did give it my best shot though.
Recently, I read about some scrappers doing this project once a month. I’m not sure if it is called Project 12 but it sounds good to me.

Here is what you do.

*1*. Take one or more photos of people, places or things that you do or see in your everyday life.
*2*. Do this once a month .
*3*. Using your photo/photos make a scrap page and add your journaling.
At the end of the year you will have 12 scrap pages to place in a book that documents your everyday life.

*4* Please upload your page to the album project 12-2010 located here. Make sure to add P12 in the tag line and in the title line. That's all you do.

To keep your book fun and interesting here are some photo ideas.

Take a photo of your crafting space
A photo of the inside of your closet
A book that you are reading
A photo of your favorite store that you go to each month
Having coffee with your family or friends
Your favorite jeans
A photo of yourself
Challenge yourself and show us your pages. But most of all have fun with this project.
Please feel free to add more photo ideas to this list.

Our New Baby

Here is my entry for Leonnie's Technique challenge at 'Soul Scrappers'

Welcome to this week’s Technique Challenge – using circles.

I do hope that you are enjoying all these challenges as there are some great ones are there not?

This is my very first Technique Challenge and not only do I hope you like what I’ve done but I also that I've set up the challenge right! This is all a bit daunting for me
to be on a ‘Soul Team’ with such talented ladies!

I thought at first using circles was a bit basic but I do know that some of the members here are not only new to ning and Soul Scrappers but also to scrapbooking.
It also doesn’t hurt to go back to the basics and revisit some of the
techniques we did when we started scrapbooking and maybe use them in different
ways.

Here is Leonnie's first ‘circles’ layout ....

and here is mine :)

I found this challenge quite hard as I am not a user of circles!!! The only time I use circles is with flowers and buttons etc.... so this challenge was not basic but quite hard for me.... Hey! but atleast I gave it a go!!

I distressed the edges of the cirles and photos for something different and attached a few of the photos to cardstock by sewing them on :)

This is 'Duke' our new baby chihuahua, 2 month old, he is the cutest tiny weeney pup ever!!....look at that face!!!

I Heart Victorian Fairings

Here is a layout I did for Jami's themed challenge at Soul Scrappers

Welcome to the second week of the Theme Challenge!!

The Theme: “I Heart…”

This theme was influenced by a dear friend of mine who always puts on her facebook status, “I heart…and she lists something. Also, working in a high school I hear the kids always saying to each other I heart u! Many of us heart things, we heart our loved ones, we heart our pets, we heart our home..etc.

For this challenge I encourage you to dig a little deeper for things you heart! On my layout I focused on three main words that I heart and why. CREATIVITY, CHALLENGE, and COURAGE. Feel free to use those words or come up with words on your own. Good Luck, Have Fun, and Tell your story!

Here is Jami's example below:

and my entry is below.....

apart from scrapbooking, this is my other passion, collecting Victorian Fairings.

Herea a bit about them.........

Victorian china fairings are small porcelain figurines ranging from about three inches (7.5 cm) to about five inches (12.5 cm) in height, and depict a variety of scenes, humorous, political or domestic. The figurine almost always incorporates a base and many fairings have a caption describing the scene or making some point inscribed on that base. Although the majority of fairings are simply decorative, they were occasionally made in the form of pinboxes, matchstrikers or holders for watches or small mirrors. Some fairings were made in pairs, for example, "Grandpapa - Grandma", two separate statuettes of a small boy and girl, each dressed in adults' clothing.
China fairings are so named because they were given away as prizes at fairs in the Victorian era, in much the same way that we would win a coconut at a fair today, although some were manufactured simply for sale. They first started appearing in the middle of the nineteenth century and remained popular until the start of the First World War.
Genuine fairings are now keenly sought by serious collectors. They can range in price from a few pounds for the more common ones (such as "Last in bed to put out the light") to several hundred pounds for the rarer ones, the most keenly sought being the five fairings the Vienna series (uncaptioned, but characterised by a gold band around the base). As with any antique, the value of a fairing depends on its condition - they are particularly delicate and damage of any sort can seriously reduce their value - and, in the case of fairings that are paired, whether they are offered singly or with their partners.
Most fairings were manufactured in Germany by Conta and Boehme. This company developed a mass production method that no other company could match, thereby achieving an advantage over other firms.

Here is a layout I did for Erika's Grand Opening Weekend challenges # 2 at Soul Scrappers

Here's the second Challenge of our Grand Opening weekend!

Many people have a hard time with the journaling aspect of their layouts. Sometimes it's hard to convey, in our own words, how we're feeling. Words are a powerful thing, though, and there are times when the words of others say exactly what we mean to say. This is definitely true for song lyrics, too.

Your challenge is to use song lyrics solely as your journaling. It doesn't have to be a picture of you, but if you'd like to focus on yourself, go for it. Scrap whatever subject you like, use however many pics you like. Just make sure that your journaling is made up of song lyrics.

Here is Erika's example:

and here is my entry......

This is a page I did recently for Erika's Journalling 101 course.

I used the lyrics from Duffy's song Distant Dreamer.

Here are the Lyrics to Duffy's 'Distant Dreamer' (Rockferry)

Distant Dreamer
Although you think I cope,
my head is filled with hope...
of some place other than here.

Although you think I smile,
inside all the while...
I'm wondering about my destiny.

I'm thinking about,
all the things,
I'd like to do in my life.

I'm a dreamer,
a distant dreamer,
dreaming for hope, from today.

Even when you see me frown,
my heart won't let me down,
because I know there's better things to come (Woah Yeah).

And when life gets tough,
I feel I've had enough,
I hold on to a distant star,

I'm thinking about,
all the things,
I'd like to do in my life...

I'm a dreamer,
A distant dreamer,
dreaming for hope from today.

I'm a dreamer,
A distant dreamer,
dreaming for hope from today.

Yeah, I'm a dreamer

Oooooooh...
Oooooooh...
Oooooooh...

I'm a dreamer,
a distant dreamer,
dreaming for hope from today,

Yeah i'm a dreamer...

Oooooooh...
Oooooooh...
Oooooooh...

I'm a dreamer.

Wash Day Blues

Here is a layout I did for Lynn Larsons Technical challenge at Soul Scrappers

Heres Lynn explaining what we had to do.............

Welcome to Thursday's Technique Challenge! For our first challenge, we are going to use a technique called: Baby Wipe Swipe

Supplies needed for this technique: Baby wipes, reinkers and a light-colored, neutral colored cardstock.

This is a fabulous technique for beginning scrapbookers or people with limited supplies.

Technique Instructions:

  • Take a baby wipe and fold it into a smaller size. (I usually fold it into quarters.)
  • Chose the colors you could like to use on your project and add a couple drops of color to the baby wipe in a row (this creates the striped look). Be sure to leave space in between each drop of color so the reinkers don't bleed together.
  • TIP - you will probably use more reinker for lighter colors and less drops of darker reinker to get your colors the way you want them. Be sure to practice on scrap paper until you get the look you want.
  • Swipe the baby wipe across a piece of neutral cardstock and re-ink as necessary to complete the page. Be careful that you don't let your colors bleed together or they will muddy.
  • Use a new baby wipe if your colors bleed together.
Here is my layout.......

Let your imagination run wild!

Thanks Lynne for a very enjoyable challenge, I have never used this technique before.... and Guess what? ...... I love it!!

Back when my kids were little I hated it when you had a full line of nappies (not those darn disposable nappies they have now) and it would start to rain, the big dash to the line to get those nappies!!
Those were the days :)

I used the baby swip technique on the clouds and my dress :) Used Stampin' UP! re-inkers Blue Bayou and Soft Sky for the clouds and Purely Pomegranite and Wild Wasabi for the dress :) then I cut out my shapes.

I made my own nappies!.....I cut up a baby wipe for the nappies and used fabric stiffener to make them hard, I shaped them to look like they are flapping in the wind :) I also added some to the washing basket and whoops one has blown off up in the clouds!

I made myself as a poppet. I have wanted to make a poppet for such a long time and got my ideas from Claudine Helmuth. Here is her blog address http://claudinehellmuth.blogspot.com/
I suggest you go take alook at her work she is a mixed media collage artist and I just love her work, so full credit goes to claudine for my poppet. I also gave her a lace shawl made out of paper lace.

The two birds were a gift, some cheap flowers from a $2 shop and a little cut out house embellishment.......
.......4 days in the making (I had to wait for the nappies to dry) but I think you will agree it was well worth it.

Not exactly Health.................

Here is my layout I did for Erika's 'About me' challenge at 'Soul Scrappers'

This is what Erika said............Welcome to the first "About Me Challenge."
For those of you that know me, you know that one of my passions is to scrapbook parts about myself so that I can pass on a legacy to the generations that follow. So often, we scrapbook about everyone else, but forget to put ourselves in front of the camera or even to just put our inner thoughts on our pages.

Your challenge is to scrapbook a little of the negative but offset it with the positive. This page is all about the positive!

Create a scrapbook page following the challenge guidelines. Next, upload your the photo of your page to the Soul Scrappers Gallery
using the challenge tag AMC1 in your photo tag. Submissions must be uploaded and tagged by 7 pm Eastern time Tuesday, February 2nd. A winner will be drawn at random on Tuesday morning and added to the top of this challenge thread.

Here is Erika's page:

and here is my page below

This is my take on Erika's 'About Me' challenge - Your challenge is to scrapbook a little of the negative but offset it with the positive.

Not exactly Healthy, not too Wealthy, but very very Wise.

Journaling reads:
Through my experience of having diabeties and having to live on my own after divorce, I've become a much stronger and independant person. I've learnt a lot about myself and the world around me. I even learnt to love again.

Supplies used
Basic Grey blush range of pp's (Fancy,Eternity and sweetie)
Dees distressed rub-ons black letters
label lingo letters fuschia
red staples
brown owl (gift)
2x 'my' epoxy stickers
Date stamp

Freedom And Love

by Thomas Campbell

How delicious is the winning
Of a kiss at love's beginning,
When two mutual hearts are sighing
For the knot there's no untying!
Yet remember, 'Midst our wooing,
Love has bliss, but Love has ruing;
Other smiles may make you fickle,
Tears for other charms may trickle.
Love he comes, and Love he tarries,
Just as fate or fancy carries;
Longest stays, when sorest chidden;
Laughs and flies, when press'd and bidden.
Bind the sea to slumber stilly,
Bind its odour to the lily,
Bind the aspen ne'er to quiver,
Then bind Love to last for ever.
Love's a fire that needs renewal
Of fresh beauty for its fuel:
Love's wing moults when caged and captured,
Only free, he soars enraptured.
Can you keep the bee from ranging
Or the ringdove's neck from changing?
No! nor fetter'd Love from dying
In the knot there's no untying.

I added the verses of the poem to the curled grass, I made two polymer clay hearts and added the title to the sign post. Below is a close up!

Sorry! a bit behind with blogging atm........!!!

Here is my first submission for 'Scrap that Poetry' DT. This is the poem we used for our inspiration.

Ah, yes! Love

by: Clarence B. Campbell

(my husband's grandfather- he published 2 poetry books before he passed away- Jennifer Campbell)

Ah, yes! Love
Is peaches and honey, and figs, and cream.
And wild grapes dripping beside the stream,
Humming birds,
And a young man's dream!
Ah, yes! Love
Is bubbles and beauty and lantern light,
Music and madness and dizzy height,
And a star-filled night!

Ah, yes! Love
Is oceans and azure, and infinite skies,
Rubies and ivory, and fathomless eyes,
Where the bluebird springs
And signs as he flies!
Ah, yes! Love
Is whispers, and flickers, and candleshine,
Glances and trances, and deep, red winde,
And the moon-dust that clings
To the gossamer vine!

Ah, yes! Love
Is kisses, caresses, and sweet desire,
Prickles and shivers, and flashing fire,
And melodies
From a throbbing lyre!
Ah, yes! love
Is silver, and roses, and gay champagne,
And the soft reprise of the April rain,
And memories
That will long remain!

and a close up

Thanks for looking

'Shiver me Timbers' my submission for FS2S for February!!

We had to take our inspiration from 'Pirates of the Carribean poster for 'From Screen 2 Scrap' plus a little added criteria.....

Pirates of the Carribean - At Worlds End

CRITERIA:

1. A skull or two......!!

*Movie Diva Demand* For extra 3 bonus points (in total).......

1 x sword = 1pt, 1 x parrott = 1pt, 1 x pirate ship = 1pt

( This is optional, you dont have to do this but it does give you the extra bonus points!)

and here is my submission

'Shiver me Timbers'

Pic is of my son Jarred at one of his school dress up days.

Everything is hand cut and pieced together. The rigging on the boat is made of embroidery thread glued together and then put through a cut icy pole stick, I made the holes using my crop-a-dile. there is a little seagull sitting on the rigging. The rigging took me 3 hours to make and a lot of cursing!!!

I drew the deck of the ship and shadowed and darkened some areas to give dimension.

The chest was handcut from CS and jewels and coin added. The parrot was pieced together with tiny bits of c/s.

Title cut from red c/s and edged in white to stand out, added a treasure map with a bit of journaling along the bottom. Skulls and shells on the island. The pirate ship and anchor are iron-ons.

Hope you like it!
