Darkness Inspiration

Here is my entry for 'Darkness Inspiration' challenge. This two week challenge is all about "The Dark Birds: Crows & Ravens"!

My take is 'The Birds' - Starring Shazza (me)! [In Technicolor] lol

This is my favourite Alfred Hithcock movie. Did you know - many of the creepy birds used on the movie set were cardboard cutouts - just like on this page :)

I look forward to the next 'Dark' challenge

Soul Sisters

Here is my take on the Technique challenge at 'Soul Scrappers' hosted by Gwen.

This is Gwens challenge: Your challenge is (enter theme music from Mission Impossible here) to create a 2 page coordinating layout and use Rub Ons for your technique. Let's see you get creative, it can be subtle like mine or over the top. I know you have them in your stash, so let's get them out and get busy!

This is my first page:

and my second page:

The TC6 challenge is to create a 2 page coordinating layout and use Rub Ons for your technique.

I created my matching pages by using all the 'Soul Sisters' avatars and using all my odd rub ons of letters from different packets to give everyone their names.

I also made a 'Soul Sister' banner similar to the one Erika made for for the 'Soul Scrappers' site.

I'm happy with how this project turned out.

May the road rise to meet you

Hi Ladies!

This is my monthly submission for Scrap that Poetry, we had to use an Irish Blessing!

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind always be at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields
and until we meet again
May God hold you in the hollow of his hand
~traditional gaelic blessing

What a beautiful Irish Blessing this is...... as soon as I had read it over a few times, I already had an idea forming inside my head. I wanted to scrap a page of 'something' in God's hands. I eventually made a flying heart and adorned it with little pics of me and some tiny embellishments just big enough to fit into the hollow of God's hand. My partner 'Hasan' was my hand model lol
I printed out the poem in assorted fonts........I'm really pleased how this has turned out.

Duke

Here is the layout that Chris Weiss (my photo swap partner) did of the photo I sent her of Duke our new baby Chihuahua . This was for a photo swap at 'Soul Scrappers'

This is the photo I sent her of Duke:

This is the page Chris made for me in the Photo Swap....this is our little Chihuahua, Duke....isn't he precious?

She has a challenge going on on her ARTastic Challenge Blog to use Art Nouveau...so, I followed the criteria and I used a cut out photo, put a halo of flowers and used Art Nouveau designs in the layout! LOL! I think it turned out pretty darned cute! :) - Chris Weiss

**************************************

This is just gorgeous Chris, you've done such a great job, the colors are just beautiful :)........... he is very precious!!
I love how you did the letters for his name and all your Art Nouveau designs . - Shazza

Cabaret Kid

Here is my Photo Swap layout I did for Chris Weiss at 'Soul Scrappers'

I used a photo of her daughter Audri (Audriana), in her tap dancing outfit in Jan 2007, she was 5 years old.

This is the photo I used:

As soon as I saw the photo of Audri in her tap dancing outfit I knew exactly that it would suit a 'Cabaret' page. I called the layout 'Cabaret Kid'.
The fact that Audri was sitting on the stairs was just perfect as I changed the first line of the song to say......'What good is sitting alone on your stairs?.... instead of....'What good is sitting alone in your room?
I made a little stage for her to perform on with red velvet curtains (lol) and floodlights at the front of the stage. I also gave her top 'billing' and added her name, date and age to her tag at the top of the stage. A little black cabaret hat was just the right embellishment to finish it off. I hope you like it and more importantly I hope Audri likes it too, although she is probably not that familiar with the 'Cabaret' song :)

....and here is the finished layout!

and a close up :)

I really enjoyed the 'Photo Swap' with you Chris!

cheers

Us 2

Here is my layout for Marisa's challenge at 'Soul Scrappers', although not a digi page I still wanted to join in as I really loved the criteria.

Merrells - Project 12 (February)

Project 12 hosted by Mary C Anderson at 'Soul Scrappers'

I’m sure that many of you have heard of Project 365. As a scrapbooker and someone who loves to take photos I thought that Project 365 would be just the thing for me. I took a photo each day for the first two weeks and even scrapbooked most of them. As the days went by I found that keeping up with this project was just too much for me. I love the idea of journaling my life through photos and scrapping them but I found that I did not have time enough to do it daily. So much for my Project 365 journey . I really did give it my best shot though.
Recently, I read about some scrappers doing this project once a month. I’m not sure if it is called Project 12 but it sounds good to me.
Here is what you do.
*1*. Take one or more photos of people, places or things that you do or see in your everyday life.
*2*. Do this once a month .
*3*. Using your photo/photos make a scrap page and add your journaling.
At the end of the year you will have 12 scrap pages to place in a book that documents your everyday life................................ by Mary

***************************************************

I decided to do my 'Project 12' pages in an art journal, I'm going to use it to try out different mixed media techniques using cloth, paint, stamps, sewing, pastels etc......

This is what the journaling says:

My partner Hasan bought me a pair of Merrill footwear for work, as I am on my feet all day they are the best shoes for comfort and support!
My feet love my Merrells!

I made my own background paper using a technique called 'Ghosting', if you look towards the bottom left hand corner you can see the 'ghosting affect' with the writting lifting up through the page.

I am going to try this technique out on other pages.

*******************************************

Here is a close up of the Ghosting technique,

You can see it really well at the bottom of the page

Soul Scrap Quest 1 - 'Home Sweet Home'

Hi Ladies!

This is an idea I came up with a few months ago and was able to showcase it on 'Soul Scrappers' where I am on the DT and an Administrator.

Here is part of the post:

I have been involved in ATC swaps, Stamped image swaps, swapping handmade embellishments and product swaps over the last two years.
'Soul Scrap Quest' is an idea I have been working on over the last
month to incorporate all these swaps into a Scrapping Challenge and
with Erika's permission I am trialing it out on Soul Scrappers for the
first time. If we get enough interest we will do a QUEST every three
months. Erika will host and score/vote the next one.

What is Soul Scrap Quest?

It's FREE STUFF that can be used on a scrapbooking page.......Cool Hey!

You will be sent a pack of embellishments to use on your page. Everyone
receives the same items (color and size may vary). The conecpt is to
scrap a page using all or most of these items. You can add anything you
like but you must use all or most of your FREE STUFF!

By adding you name to the list you agree to use all or most of the FREE STUFF
supplied, make a card, layout, OTP, sewn item or a mixed media
item.......and then upload to the gallery using the code SSQ1 in the
title. This Quest allows you to create anything you want......

What makes this a QUEST unique..... is that until you open your
envelope you are really not going to know what is in it, and what you
are expected to use. Some of the embellies could be shop bought,
painted items, stickers, stamped images, polymer clay items, metal
items, hand pieced images, handmade flowers, sewn items, felt items
etc......... the list goes on!!

NOTE: Because this is the first 'Soul Scrap Quest' .... out of the
kindness of my heart, I am posting the embellies for free however in
future you may be required to send a return stamp self addressed
envelope. Remember this is a trial, so will change depending on
interest. More ladies = return stamp addressed envelope.

The only hint you will get is the theme, so for this challenge we will scrap to the theme 'HOME SWEET HOME'

Benefit of the Quest!!
1. You scrap items you may never have thought of scrapping before
2. You get to see how 11 other individuals use their items and you will be amazed at all the creative ideas.
3. You use techniques and ideas on your future scrap booking pages.
4. Makes you think out side the square, you become more creative and arty!
5. Perfect for begginers because you will learn so much

There will be a prize for the Winner, a RAK (Random Act of Kindness) donated by Shazza
OOH you say, but how do we win!!! There are some great prizes for the winners!

Each entry will be scored/voted by Shazza {Me}:
10 x embellishments scores 1 pt for each one used = (max 10 pts)
If you use all embellies = 2 x bonus points
Presentation, balance, design and overall look = 4pts
Creativity using embellies = 4 pts
Total 20 points

Heres what I cam up with, using my embellishment pack. Once all the ladies have completed there pages hopefully I will be able to share some of them with you :)

If anyone is interested in joining the next 'Soul Scrap Quest', just let me know in this thread and I will give you a heads up when the next one starts :)

Oh the places you Two'll go!

Here is my submissione for Challenge #11 at Scrap that Poetry.

In honor of Dr. Seuss (Theodore Geisel's) birthday on March 2nd, the poem for the month at 'Scrap that Poetry' is.......is Oh The Places You'll Go. What an absolutely wonderful poem/book that is appropriate for all ages.

My sister sent me this pic of my two nieces sitting on a pier looking out over the sea during the Christmas, New Year holidays. When I first saw the photo it put a smile on my face and I thought............. I wander what those two are thinking? ........... I wander what the future holds for those two? ............ will they still be close as cousins? ............. will they follow their dreams?
This was the perfect way to showcase this photo using the inspiration from the childrens book 'Oh the Places you'll go' by Dr Seuss. I put a spin on the title and changed it too 'Oh the places you Two'll go! to include my two neices, 'Megan and Tash'

This is what the journalling says:
What's in store for my two nieces, what does the future hold? Following their dreams, seeking joy, making friends and never getting old!

I thoroughly enjoyed this months poem :)

A close up below:

Oh the Places You'll Go
by Dr. Seuss

Congratulations!

Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places!
You're off and away!
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You're on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go.
You'll look up and down streets. Look 'em over with care.
About some you will say, "I don't choose to go there."
With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet,
you're too smart to go down any not-so-good street.
And you may not find any
you'll want to go down.
In that case, of course,
you'll head straight out of town.
It's opener there
in the wide open air.
Out there things can happen
and frequently do
to people as brainy
and footsy as you.
And when things start to happen,
don't worry. Don't stew.
Just go right along.
You'll start happening too.
OH!
THE PLACES YOU'LL GO!
You'll be on your way up!
You'll be seeing great sights!
You'll join the high fliers
who soar to high heights.
You won't lag behind, because you'll have the speed.
You'll pass the whole gang and you'll soon take the lead.
Wherever you fly, you'll be the best of the best.
Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.
Except when you don't
Because, sometimes, you won't.
I'm sorry to say so
but, sadly, it's true
and Hang-ups
can happen to you.
You can get all hung up
in a prickle-ly perch.
And your gang will fly on.
You'll be left in a Lurch.
You'll come down from the Lurch
with an unpleasant bump.
And the chances are, then,
that you'll be in a Slump.
And when you're in a Slump,
you're not in for much fun.
Un-slumping yourself
is not easily done.
You will come to a place where the streets are not marked.
Some windows are lighted. But mostly they're darked.
A place you could sprain both your elbow and chin!
Do you dare to stay out? Do you dare to go in?
How much can you lose? How much can you win?
And IF you go in, should you turn left or right...
or right-and-three-quarters? Or, maybe, not quite?
Or go around back and sneak in from behind?
Simple it's not, I'm afraid you will find,
for a mind-maker-upper to make up his mind.
You can get so confused
that you'll start in to race
down long wiggled roads at a break-necking pace
and grind on for miles across weirdish wild space,
headed, I fear, toward a most useless place.
The Waiting Place...
...for people just waiting.
Waiting for a train to go
or a bus to come, or a plane to go
or the mail to come, or the rain to go
or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow
or waiting around for a Yes or a No
or waiting for their hair to grow.
Everyone is just waiting.
Waiting for the fish to bite
or waiting for wind to fly a kite
or waiting around for Friday night
or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake
or a pot to boil, or a Better Break
or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants
or a wig with curls, or Another Chance.
Everyone is just waiting.
NO!
That's not for you!
Somehow you'll escape
all that waiting and staying.
You'll find the bright places
where Boom Bands are playing.
With banner flip-flapping,
once more you'll ride high!
Ready for anything under the sky.
Ready because you're that kind of a guy!
Oh, the places you'll go! There is fun to be done!
There are points to be scored. there are games to be won.
And the magical things you can do with that ball
will make you the winning-est winner of all.
Fame! You'll be famous as famous can be,
with the whole wide world watching you win on TV.
Except when they don't.
Because, sometimes, they won't.
I'm afraid that some times
you'll play lonely games too.
Games you can't win
'cause you'll play against you.
All Alone!
Whether you like it or not,
Alone will be something
you'll be quite a lot.
And when you're alone, there's a very good chance
you'll meet things that scare you right out of your pants.
There are some, down the road between hither and yon,
that can scare you so much you won't want to go on.
But on you will go
though the weather be foul
On you will go
though your enemies prowl
On you will go
though the Hakken-Kraks howl
Onward up many
a frightening creek,
though your arms may get sore
and your sneakers may leak.
On and on you will hike
and I know you'll hike far
and face up to your problems
whatever they are.
You'll get mixed up, of course,
as you already know.
You'll get mixed up
with many strange birds as you go.
So be sure when you step.
Step with care and great tact
and remember that Life's
a Great Balancing Act.
Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.
And never mix up your right foot with your left.
And will you succeed?
Yes! You will, indeed!
(98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)
KID, YOU'LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!
So...
be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray
or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O'Shea,
you're off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So...get on your way!

My submission for ARTastic challenge blog!

This is my submission for ARTastic challenge blog. This month we have to take our inspiration from this painted postcard by Alphonso Muscha called 'Reverie'

Reverie - Criteria for March....

ARTastic Diva Demand... for an extra 6 bonus points

1. Use a cut out figurine from a photo = 1 pt

2. Make a halo using flowers around the figurines head = 2pts

3. Use Art Nouveau style/designs on your layout = 3 pts

Here is my take:

The Best is yet to Be

Here is my submission for The 'Reverie' piece. Photo taken at my wedding, someone snapped this photo with my mum walking past me. I think I was about to say something to her........

The title comes from the poem in the left hand corner, the poem says:

The Best Is Yet To Be

On your joyful wedding day,
You begin a brand new life.
Friends and family give their gifts
To joyful husband, blissful wife.

But the greatest gift you'll ever get,
A gift from heaven above,
Is love forever, ending never,
Everlasting love.

You'll share life's joy and pleasure;
You'll have plenty of that, it's true.
But love is the real treasure
For your new spouse and you.

And if life hands you challenges,
As it does to one and all,
Your love will hold you steady
And never let you fall.

Your wedding day is full of joy;
Tomorrow you cannot see.
But one thing's sure for the two of you:
The best is yet to be.
