Stash your CRop Cash - Erica's Paper Flowers

Phew!1 I think I just made it to get my challenge in before the deadline. You can get to Dixie Pieces STash your Crop Cash to have a look from here

This is Erica's challenge -
Hey guys! I loved the vintage dress patterns that were included in the April kit and I made some really fun flowers out of them. My challenge to you is to create a layout using a flower (or flowers) that you've made from non-scrapbooking paper!
Here are some kinds of paper you could use just to get you started!
Newspaper
Tissue Paper
Dress Patterns
Sheet Music
Magazines
Security Style Envelopes

Here is my entry for Ericas paper flowers - I made my flowers from book paper and distressed them with my crimper, I then added Kindy Glitz to the edges.

A Hug Between Friends is the Shortest Distance.

This is my friend Sam and I at Uproars retreat on the Gold Coast in March. I also used a cut out and quote from a 'Friendship Calender' that Sam gave me as a gift in 2010.

I'm loving 'Stash Your Crop Cash'! - Sandi's card from packaging challenge!

I'm loving Stash your Cash Crop at Dixie Pieces this week :)

Sandi's challenge
This is what Sandi had to say.....OK! I'm a bit of a hoarder...squirrelling away bits & bobs that might 'just come in handy' for something...& you have to agree, some of the packaging our scrap supplies come in is just too pretty to throw away!
So, my first challenge to you is to create a card using at least one item of manufacturers packaging!! Include a before & after photo if you can!! You can view the entrants for Sandi's challenge here

I'm loving 'Stash Your Crop Cash'! - Don't Come the Raw Prawn with ME!

I'm loving 'Stash your Cash Crop' at Dixie Pieces this week :)

This is my entry for Scrappykims Trash Challenge, you can view all the entries here.

Here's what Kim had to say about her challenge - With homemade embellishments being so popular these days, I am always on the lookout for something I can use to create new and fun things. Sandi challenged us this morning to use Scrappin' product packaging, but what about other things that we might consider "trash". There are lots of tips online about using dryer sheets to create flowers and such, but we don't use traditional dryer sheets. We did switch laundry detergents that other day, though. We started using a 3-in-1 sheet --- it's a thick sheet of foamy like material that goes from the washing machine to the dryer. When I saw what was left after it did it's job in the dryer, I knew it would be perfect! They end up being a 1/8 inch thick piece of foamy material with a slight plastic film on the back.
There are lots of things in our trash or recycling bin that we can use for embellishments ---- another thing I love to do is punch circles out of cracker or cereal boxes --- the color families are so interesting!
So my challenge for you today is to use something on your layout that was pulled out of your trash or recycling! Get creative! Be sure to explain to us what is was and what you did with it! The only stipulation is that it can't be scrappin product packaging!

Here is the packaging I used
Pandaroo Prawn Crackers

I have used the 'Pandaroo Prawn Cracker Box' that I saved from the Garbage, I was going to make cardboard flowers but instead I decided to use that gorgeous fat prawn image, and this is what I came up with.......

Dont Come the Raw Prawn with Me

I dont think Adam would like a close up! this time lol

She was a Garden Angel

Here is my entry for Debi's Soul Scrap Quest 'How does your Garden Grow', at Soul Scrappers I decided to make a canvas, with lots of textures and some of Debs bits and bobs. I did not use 4 items...... the fabric flower, one white butterfly button, group of stickers and paper clip, sorry they just would have looked out of place.

and a close up!

I made this for my friend Ellen as a birthday gift, she works in the nursery at Bunnings and she is such a sweetie. I used the 'She is a Garden Angel' quote as we refer to her at work as our Garden Angel.

Here's how I used the other pieces........

Doily - as part of the sun
1 button - on waistband of dress
Chipboard piece - right hand corner of canvas
Quote - bottom left corner
2x4'x4' papers - Pink and brown polka dot as scalloped petticoat to dress the other piece I cut out a butterfly and used the rest as angel wings.
ribbons - pink waistband and cut our dragon flies on canvas
4x rhinestones - 4 flower centres
Watering can = bottom left corner

Thanks Deb for this marvellous challenge, I loved putting this together and Ellen (my Friend) absolutely loved it as her birthday gift :)

SCREAMING Children and Dances with the Daffodils

This month at Scrap that Poetry' I was asked to be the Guest DT for the month, Which I'm just over the moon about :) If you would like to see me in the spotlight you can get to STP from here. We have two poems this month.....

AND from next month....
STP are changing the challenge blog slightly!
They will only be posting one challenge for the entire month beginning in May.

The first is.........Challenge #38

Calmly We Walk Through This April's Day
by Delmore Schwartz

Calmly we walk through this April's day,
Metropolitan poetry here and there,
In the park sit pauper and rentier,
The screaming children, the motor-car
Fugitive about us, running away,
Between the worker and the millionaire
Number provides all distances,
It is Nineteen Thirty-Seven now,
Many great dears are taken away,
What will become of you and me
(This is the school in which we learn...)
Besides the photo and the memory?
(...that time is the fire in which we burn.)
(This is the school in which we learn...)
What is the self amid this blaze?
What am I now that I was then
Which I shall suffer and act again,
The theodicy I wrote in my high school days
Restored all life from infancy,
The children shouting are bright as they run
(This is the school in which they learn . . .)
Ravished entirely in their passing play!
(...that time is the fire in which they burn.)
Avid its rush, that reeling blaze!
Where is my father and Eleanor?
Not where are they now, dead seven years,
But what they were then?
No more? No more?
From Nineteen-Fourteen to the present day,
Bert Spira and Rhoda consume, consume
Not where they are now (where are they now?)
But what they were then, both beautiful;
Each minute bursts in the burning room,
The great globe reels in the solar fire,
Spinning the trivial and unique away.
(How all things flash! How all things flare!)
What am I now that I was then?
May memory restore again and again
The smallest color of the smallest day:
Time is the school in which we learn,
Time is the fire in which we burn.

Here is my take, I used the words 'SCREAMING Children' and added will not be tolerated.
As soon as I saw those words I just wanted to do a page showcasing screaming children and added....'will not be tolerated'.
All the screaming children have been adopted from the internet lol.

The next poem is...Challenge #39

I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud
by William Wordsworth

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling leaves in glee;
A poet could not be but gay,
In such a jocund company!
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

Here is my take on the poem...

I used the last line ...'and dances with the daffodils' from the poem I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud by William Wordsworth

I used a watercolor pic of children holding hands and dancing in a field of daffodils. I loved this poem so I added the full poem and added the poem title and poet in the lonely little cloud at the top left hand side.
