Some Special Words From My Lovey

Here is a poem Hasan wrote me the other day :) Hasan often writes me little poems, I think I will use this on scrapbook page for Valentines day

Her eyes are the light
My heart travels by
Her warmth is the glow
To show me the way
Hand in hand, we
Travel along,
Contented in Silence
Our love is the song

Australia Day at Bunnings

Thought I would show a few pics from Australia Day at work (Bunnings). It was the first time in about twenty years that I was rostered to work on this public holiday , it actually felt really weird........ and even more so when I turned up for work at 6.45 am and the store car park was deserted. Apparently we open at 8am on a public holiday.... would have been nice to know :) The first pic is our store at 6.45 am, quiet as.....

Blog of the Month! - January

Part of my "Connecting with Creativity" is to feature a monthly blog. A blog that I follow, that I really love and enjoy and am inspired by. In this way, it will promote their blog and also direct people to sites of "Crafty" people, (there are hundreds of us out there!). You can bookmark their site , follow their blog or even add them to your side bar OR just take a peek at their works of art in general.

So, this month's featured Blogger is..........

Tadaa!!

SCRAPPY-ALI's BLOGSPOT

I met Ali on Erika Martins (Stampin' Mama), "Soulology" course and liked her straight away. She was the first person to introduce herself and put a little comment on all the other class members pages :) She is located in London UK (darn it! can't even get together for a coffee). Her profile says "I love scrapbbooking, cardmaking and CHOCOLATE" - a girl after my own heart :)

I just love her blog, she has made the most awesome cards which are featured on her slide show. She also did this great page for the Soulology Week #2 course called "The puzzle of me" (the post dated 31st Oct). I just thought it was a fantastic idea, and I loved the color scheme.

Her blog also features The bubble game........ believe me when I say its addictive! There is also an element called "What color girl are you? Well, I happen to be a Blue girl and this is what it said.....

Relationships and feelings are the most important things to you.
You are empathetic and accepting - and good at avoiding conflict.
If someone close to you is in pain, it makes you hurt as well.
You try to heal the ones you love with your kind and open heart.

Ali also has a slide show of her scrapbook pages, I love her Florida memories 2007 layouts, (the one of her kissing the dolphin is just beautiful).

So, if you want to go meet this fantastic lady, you can get to her Blog from here.

Cheers for now

Take a pic Tuesday #1 and Scrap it Saturday #1 by Makeesha Byl

Makkesha Byl has started Take a pic Tuesday, this is where she will take a weekly photo of something random, or of the kids, or of an event…… something that happens in 2009, and she will post it on her blog on a Tuesday.

Then she will take that photo, scrap it, and show us on Scrap it Saturday……

I thought this was a great idea, so I decided I would attempt to also do this task every week, this way I will have a fabulous record of what went on this year. You can view Makeesha Bly's blog entry dated 24/01/2009 here.

This is the photo of Jenna I took on Tuesday. She came out of her bedroom wearing an eye patch and moustache. Not sure where she found the props maybe in an old show bag or left overs from a fancy dress party..... who knows! Anyway, I snapped a few photos and this is the photo I used.

This is my 12"x12" layout. I titled this "Just kidding around". The caption reads Aargh! Shiver me timbers! Only a face a mother could love! of course we are both just "Kidding around" :) This layout is not my usual style but I thought I would try something different. Have a look below.

and the usual close up... Sorry, the close up is not a great pic, I took it at night and there is a bit of a yellowy tinge to the photo!

Thanks for looking... me hearty's!

Crop night Layouts

I went to another 'crop night' at Flutterbuys, last night. The shop is located at 653 High Street, Preston. You can link to there web site from here. I managed to get three layouts completed. I just love all the ladies that attend the crop night, they are fun, creative and very inspiring. You should book in!

I based my layout on the one posted by Jayne Mercer {Me} on her blog page"Friday Scrapbook challenge #3" dated 17/01/2009. You can find her blog here. She did a double page spread using the sketch of the layout on page 22 of the Stampin' up Idea Book & Catalogue as inspiration. This is Jarred at his fourth birthday party.

....and the second page...

Here is my third page. I couldn't resist using this photo of Tash. I titled this layout "Cute as".
Now you can see why! Isn't she just adorable. I based my layout on the one posted by Jayne Mercer {Me} on her blog page "Friday Scrapbook challenge #4" dated 23/01/2009.

Tribute to Dad

Today marks 10 years since my dad, "Graeme John Morrison" passed away. I thought I would pay homage to him by posting a few photos.

Dad was born at the Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia on the twenty-fourth of May 1939. He was born in the year that marked the beginning of World War Two. He was one of three children of his parents Quinton and Annie Morrison and he shared his child hood with his brother Lindsay (dec) and his sister Jean. He grew up in Kew, his father was a policeman and later in life a maintenance carpenter at the Australian Paper Mills, his mum was a seamstress.

He was educated at Kew Primary School and then went to Swinburn Tech where he barely made it to the of 14 before he was off to take on the world. His first job was at the Jex factory before moving over to Model Dairy in Kew. He eventually found his neiche in sales and for the rest of his working life that was what he did.

Dad was a real good looker with a large and fast Triump motor bike when he met Melvie one evening at a local coffee lounge in Preton. Dad was nearly nineteen when he married Melvie at the local church in Hawthorn in 1958. He took her off to Phillip Island for their honey moon in his pride and joy, his little Ford Prefect car.

Here is a photo of Mum and Dad in their younger days.

This is another photo of Dad and his sister Jean. Taken at his brother Lindsay's engagement party.

Their first home was in McCrae Road, Rosanna where they lived and raised a family for thirteen or so years before finally settling in their comfortable home in Appleblossom Court, Viewbank. With the passing of time Dad was proud to become a father. Dad to Sharon {me}, Debbie, Craig and Lorel. he watched them all grow up and mature into fine adults of whom he could be truly proud.

It was no coincidence that Graeme was often called "Big Fella", he was a big man in more ways than one. He was a character, larger than life, he was brimming over with the love of life, full of fun and laughter, loud, boisterous and often just a tiny bit outrageous.

In his early days he was a pretty good golfer and all his life he loved to fish. he developed a love of boats and camping. The holidays spent at Mansfiled on the banks of Lake Eildon were a source of much happiness. He patiently taught all us kids and all our friends to water ski and to drive the boat. Later in life the family fishing trips to Mitta were another important part of Dads love of the outdoors.

Here are a few more recent photos of Dad

Tonight all the family are gathering at one of dads favourite pubs, to pay tribute to him. He loved to drink at the "Old England Hotel" Est 1848 in Heidelberg. I recently found a post card of the hotel, here is what it looks like today.

Thrill Seeker - Adam

Here is my interpretation of Jayne Mercer's Friday Scrapbook Challenge #2 (dated 9 th Jan 2009). You can view her web site by clicking here.
The photo I have used of Adam dates back to 1989 when he was at kindergarten (Diamond Creek Memorial Pre-School). He had such blond hair back then, and was very active always climbing things, as most boys do!

Flutterbuys Has Gone Live!

Please check out the new Flutterbuys web site. You can get to it from here.

Flutterbuys is a scrapbooking supply shop located at 653 High Street, Preston. The ladies who run the shop are fabulous and very helpful, they also have crop nights, held fortnightly on a Friday. See the link for more info.

More Layouts Completed at Crop Night

I completed three more layouts last night at a crop night held at Christy Baine's house. Christy is a Creative Memories consultant in the Greensborough/St Helena area. It was a fab night with dinner provided and hours and hours of chatting, drinking and scrapping. There were raffles and door prizes given out throughout the night. Christy has a fantastic set up with plenty of room to scrap at two large tables and lots of lovely things on display on bookshelves around the room. I would highly recommend this crop night to anyone. I even got to use a new punch I purchased on the night called the "Sweet Heart Maker", it just added the right touch to my Jenna "Purple Girl" layout. The punch would be perfect to use for Valentines card making.

My first layout is "Cheeky" Jenna at Mansfield 1990/1991.

A close up of Jenna

The next layout is Jarred taken at Ocean Grove in 1990. I have titled this one "Driving Miss Daisy".......

and finally another lay out of Jenna, "Purple Girl".Which has a mauve/purple tinge!

A close up of Jenna. She was such a cutie as a littlie!

Anyway, thanks for looking.

Three Little Cards

I needed to make three little cards today. I made them using Stampin' Up! products. I used the color Blue Bayou from the "In Color" range. The card stock, ink pad and double stitched ribbon are all Blue Bayou. I used a scallop punch and the stamp set used was "Figures of Speech". I also cut my own template and embossed a frame inside the card using a stylus. So quick and easy to make using one color. What do you think?

You can see the embossing around the inside of the card clearer in the close up

Is this card on its way to you!

Kookaburra Shoe Shine Box

Every couple of months I will post some pics of things that I have painted or crafted at home, with some info about the projects.

I came across this "Kookaburra Shoe Shine Box" in a painting magazine called "Folk Art & Decorative Painting Yearbook", Vol 6 #3. It was painted by a talented folk art painter called Pam Taylor. She designed the shoe box for a friend to give to her man, to store his boot polishes and brushes in. She did a lot of research into old Australian adverts and together with her collection of tins put this together. It's a little bit of Australian history to remember.

As soon as I saw it I just had to paint one. I looked everywhere to firstly find the box, and came across one in an second hand store that had been quite knocked around, was dirty splattered with paint and had rubber (Where you place your shoes) that was worn and hanging off. I remember my mum saying "What in carnation are you going to do with that dirty thing". I told her I had a plan for it! Well I removed the rubber and gave it a scrub, I traced the elements on to the sides and got cracking base coating it and with some help from my painting teacher Monica.... the following is the end result! The only change I made to the project, was the Kookaburra on the front, I found a postcard at the post office with a chunkier Kookaburra, so I copied that one instead.

4 Generations

This is one of my latest layouts. I found this photo when I was tidying up an old box of paperwork, so as not to misplace this photo again, I scrapped it straight away.
The photo was taken in 1984, we are visiting my nan in a nursing home as she was 80 years old. My Dad (Graeme) and my Nan (Annie) have both now passed away. I was 26, Dad was 45 and baby adam was only 5 weeks old.
I wish I was that thin again and amasingly I have the same basic hair cut (thats what happens when you have curly hair).
I really love this photo!

Here is a close up.

Riverside Picnic!

Being creative is an exhausting process! So to give my brain a break my lovey took me for a picnic down by the lovely Maribrynong River. We had a nice lunch, a bit too much camembert (!) and topped it off with a visit to Poyntons Nursery. Going to the nursery is fun because we always stop and get a gelati on the way out.

It was a lovely sunny day down by the riverside:)

Celebrating our 50th Birthdays on Hamilton Island!

Here are some pics of my 4 girlfriends and I celebrating our 5oth birthdays. We went to Hamilton Island which is part of the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland mid November. It also gave me a chance to visit my son Jarred who was living on the island (What a life!!) and was working as a landscape gardener at the resorts (he is back in Melbourne now). He was working at a new 5 star resort, called "Qualia".

I am staying with Sharon, Kim, Robyn and Sue, (We all went to Primary and Secondary school) and we all turned 50 during 2008, we thought it would be nice idea to get together for a few days of celebration. Robyn flew in from Reno USA.

Celebrating Robyn turning 50 at a local restaurant! From left {me}, Kim, Sharon, Robyn and Sue.
